April Doubleday

April Doubleday is a British designer/maker of contemporary jewellery living on the North Coast of Devon.

She studied at Plymouth College of Art and Design and gained a degree in Design Metals in 2005.

She is inspired by the the coastline, rock formations for her designs.

Her jewellery is bold and energetic using line, form and colour, every piece is hand made giving each piece an individuality of its own. Most pieces are one off, individually made by from flat sheets of silver. Most of her work is forged, folded, etched and soldered with stones being set to give colour and radiance to the piece.

She uses re-cycled wood from musical instruments in my work, as ebony and rosewood are precious woods today. She sources most of her stones from labs until she can visit mines to see if human rights are in place.

She use some gold plate inside the folds of etched silver as minimal gold is used and Fair Trade Green gold from the west coast of Columbia (choco).

Her range of Ethical Wedding Rings are made with 18ct ethical white/yellow gold.

The metal is sourced from co-operative mines working with ARM (Association for Responsible Mining) who work in a socially and environmentally responsible way.

No toxic chemicals such as cyanide and mercury are used in the cleaning process keeping the bio diversity of habitats intact.

She sources her diamonds from Canada so she can be sure of the transparent supply chain, which is socially and environmentally responsible
